Joachim Behrendt is the founding partner of BIC Angels and Chairman of the board of directors at Nexum. Nexum, founded by Behrendt in 2000 as a startup, has become a leading digital agency and IT service provider with customers from all over the world. During his professional career, Behrendt gave consulting services to many local and multinational companies regarding strategy, controlling, IT services, finance and restructuring. Behrendt is teaching entrepreneurship at Boğaziçi University. He has published academic articles about finance, treasury, risk management, taxation and business intelligence published in Germany, UK and Turkey and continues to teach at Boğaziçi University Entrepreneurship. Behrendt speaks German, English, and Turkish. He is married and has a daughter.
Ebru Elmas Gurses is Partner and Head of the Finance& Legal Department at BIC Angels primarily focusing on finance, accounting and legal.
Ebru commenced her career in KPMG Istanbul after graduating from Istanbul University. For 6 years at KPMG, she participated in many M&A projects in both KPMG Istanbul and KPMG London offices. In 2011, she joined PriceWaterHouseCoopers as a project manager. She has specialized in the areas of buy-side and vendor due diligences. Ebru has extensive Private Equity buyer and seller experience some which include, but not limited with Turkven, One Equity Partners – JP Morgan, AbraajCapital, and Goldman Sachs.
Elif Arık is Marketing & Brand Manager at BIC Angels. Her main responsibilities are to evaluate startups, prepare analysis documents, marketing researches, and organization of events, manage social media accounts, take active role for selecting and filtering startups for investment, and contribute BIC Angels brand among startups, investors and other players in the industry.
After graduating from Bilkent University, American Culture and Literature Department in 2014, Elif worked as a Brand Management Trainee at TBWA and then at LC Waikiki in Visual Merchandising, Design and Buying departments for a year. Also, Elif has internship experiences at Prime Ministry, Ministry for EU Affairs and at MAG Media as an Editorial Assistant.
Mehmet Akalın is an Investment Director at BIC Angels. He is mainly responsible for deal flow management and business development of the prospective startup investments. Additionally he is in charge of identifying investment targets, mentoring startups and managing partners.
Mehmet graduated from Management Department, Sabancı University in 2013. He started his career in Kraft Foods Turkey as supporting the marketing team in the Candy Department, consisting of seven brands. Afterwards he completed his global training within Marubeni Cooperation in Japan, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. He assisted research team in different industries like energy, transportation and machinery. After testing different waters he founded his own startup and decided to specialize on entrepreneurship. For this reason he completed his postgraduate degree in Entrepreneurship from the University of Sussex, U.K.
Aras Kocaoğlan is working as BIC101 Acceleration Program Manager and he is responsible for meeting entrepreneurs, filtering and preparing to present these projects to investors. He deals with the promotion of the program, communication with the entrepreneurs, investors and strategic partners. After graduating from BSc in Industrial Engineering in Bilkent University, he has completed MSc degree in Innovation Entrepreneurship and Management in Imperial CollegeBusiness School. While studying in London, he has co-founded a startup and carried out a consulting project in Uganda. He then moved to Turkey and co-founded another startup and and took on business development responsibilities.
Kerim Alçep has been working at accounting and finance department of BIC Angels for 3 years. He studied Economics at Istanbul University. He is also studying for master degree on accounting and financing.
